Bitcoin addresses don’t expire, so they can technically be used and reused indefinitely. However, reusing addresses can pose security, privacy, and spendability risks.
Bitkey addresses are created using a combination of your App key, Hardware key, and Bitkey’s Server Key. If you replace either of the keys you control—such as when replacing your hardware device or performing a App Key Recovery—addresses generated with the previous keys may become difficult or impossible to spend from.
Here's what to expect:
- If the address was created after you completed a Delay + Notify recovery, or if you have never performed a recovery, any funds sent to a previously generated address will remain accessible in your wallet.
- If the address was created before a Delay + Notify recovery, funds sent to that address should be accessible.
💡 Tip: For both privacy and security, always use a new bitcoin address when receiving funds in Bitkey.
