Yes, you can change the cloud account used for your Bitkey backup. If you sign into a different iCloud or Google account on your phone, Bitkey’s Cloud Health Check will detect the change and notify you that your backups need to be updated. You can then follow the prompts in the Security hub to create a new hardware-encrypted App Key cloud backup and Emergency Exit Kit backup on your new cloud account. You will need to approve this with your Bitkey hardware device.
For Android (Google account)
- Go to your Google account
- Locate Bitkey and select Delete all connections
- Confirm the disconnection
- Open the Bitkey app. Tap the
shield icon to open the Security hub
- Tap Cloud Backup
(it may take a few moments for the screen to load)
- Under App Key Backup, there should be a message: Problem with Google account access. Tap Back up now to continue
- When prompted to choose your old Google account, tap Cancel
- Tap Sign in to Google
- Choose or add the Google account you want to use for backup
- When prompted to sign in to Bitkey, tap Continue
- Tap Allow to grant the required permissions
- Bitkey will prepare and upload your backup. This may take a few moments
- When complete, you’ll return to the Cloud backup screen. Under App Key Backup and Emergency Exit Kit you should see: Google backup - Successfully backed up
For iOS (iCloud account)

- Sign out of the Apple ID currently being used on your phone
- Sign in to the Apple ID you would like to use for your Bitkey backup
- Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled
- Open the Bitkey app — a new cloud backup will be created automatically
