No — you will never be forced to perform a hardware (firmware) update to use your Bitkey.
Bitkey is designed to give you control. Your access to your funds remains your choice. While firmware updates may be recommended for security improvements or new features, you decide when—or if—to install them.
What this means
- Bitkey maintains compatibility between app versions and firmware
- You can continue using your device without updating
- Updates are recommended, not required
If an update is important, you’ll see a notification in the Bitkey app explaining why, so you can make an informed decision.
