If someone who enrolled you as a Recovery Contact asks for your help recovering their Bitkey wallet, here’s how you can assist.
🔐 Note: You must be enrolled and activated as a Recovery Contact to assist with recovery.
If the invite was never accepted or the wallet owner hasn’t activated you, you won’t be able to help.

Confirm you’re talking to the right person.
- We recommend doing this over a live form of communication, like a phone or video call.
- Make sure it’s the person who added you as a Recovery Contact.

Open the Bitkey app on your phone.
- If the app is already installed, skip to step 5.
- If the app is already installed, skip to step 5.

If needed, reinstall the Bitkey app and restore your Recovery Contact credentials.
- Download the Bitkey app again from your app store.
- Open the app and select More options > Be a Recovery Contact.
- Bitkey will check your cloud account for a backup.
- Make sure you’re signed into the same cloud account you used when you accepted the Recovery Contact invitation.
- Once your backup is found, you’ll be redirected to the Home screen.

Go to Settings > Recovery Contact.
- From the Bitkey Home screen, tap the
settings icon, then tap
Recovery Contact.
- From the Bitkey Home screen, tap the
- Select the name of the person who requested your help.

Tap Help with Recovery.

Confirm how you were contacted.
- You’ll be asked to specify how the person reached out to you (e.g. phone call, video chat).
- You’ll be asked to specify how the person reached out to you (e.g. phone call, video chat).

Enter the Recovery Code they give you.
- The person you're helping will share a code.
- Enter the code exactly as shown.
- Tap Continue.
- Once the code is confirmed, you’ll return to the Home screen.
- Your part in the recovery process is complete.
