Ensuring assets held in self-custody pass on to your intended beneficiaries is a challenging problem to solve. Unlike with most traditional assets, like bank or brokerage accounts, there’s no higher authority to manually take control of your holdings without your assistance or approval.
We understand the importance of being able to give your loved ones access to your Bitkey in the event of your death. For now, the most direct way to do this would be to add the fingerprint of your loved one as one of the fingerprints enrolled on your Bitkey hardware device, so that they can perform a Delay + Notify recovery in the event of your death. With just your hardware device, and the ability to unlock it, they’ll be able to pair it with a fresh app on their own phone and eventually find their way to full control of the contents of your Bitkey.
