Wiping your Bitkey hardware device permanently removes the Hardware Key and disconnects it from your wallet. This action cannot be undone.
If you’re trying to fix an issue, you may only need to restart your device:

Only wipe your device if you're discarding, giving it away, or returning it.
⚠️ WARNING: Wiping your device removes its ability to access your wallet.
After this:
- The device can no longer approve transactions
- It can no longer help recover your wallet
- It can no longer be used with the Emergency Exit Kit
If you don’t have another Hardware Key set up and later lose access to your App Key, you may permanently lose access to your funds.
To wipe your Bitkey hardware device:
- From the Home screen, tap the
shield icon to open the Security hub
- Tap

If your wallet has funds
If your wallet has spendable funds, you’ll be prompted to transfer them before continuing.- Tap Transfer funds
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Return and restart the wipe process once complete
If the funds transfer is still pending
You will not be able to proceed until the transaction has confirmed. When it has confirmed, restart the wipe process.If the device has never been associated with your wallet
If the device you're trying to wipe has never been associated with your wallet, you'll see a message that the device cannot be wiped.
Confirm the risks
You’ll see a warning screen explaining the risks. Review each item and select the checkbox next to it.
Tap Wipe device to continue.
Complete the wipe
You’ll see a final confirmation box before scanning your device. This box reminds you that:
- This cannot be undone
- This action will permanently wipe your Bitkey device
Tap Scan and wipe, then approve the action using your unlocked Bitkey device:
- Hold your unlocked Bitkey device to your phone
- If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey screen, then hold it to your phone again to complete verification
