If you no longer want to be a beneficiary — or if you’ve already completed the funds transfer and want to remove your benefactor from your wallet — you can remove yourself by following the steps below.
To remove yourself as a beneficiary
- From the Bitkey app Home screen, tap the
settings icon
- Tap
Inheritance
- Go to the Benefactors tab
- Tap Manage next to the benefactor you want to remove
- If you don’t see their name, there’s no active beneficiary relationship and no further action is needed

- If you don’t see their name, there’s no active beneficiary relationship and no further action is needed
- Tap Remove benefactor and confirm using your unlocked Bitkey device:
- Hold your unlocked Bitkey device to your phone.
- If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey screen, then hold it to your phone again to complete verification.
What happens based on status
- Active – This will end the beneficiary/benefactor relationship immediately
- Claim pending – This will cancel the claim and end the relationship
- Claim approved – You’ll only see Remove benefactor after you've initiated the funds transfer. Once the transfer is initiated, return and repeat the steps above to remove yourself.
After removal
- Your benefactor’s name will no longer appear on your Benefactors tab
- Your benefactor will receive a notification that the relationship has ended
- They will no longer see your name listed on their Beneficiaries tab
