The Security hub is your go-to place to see what’s protecting your wallet — and what still needs your attention. It gives you real-time visibility into your wallet’s security and recovery status, and helps you take quick action when something important changes.
How to access the Security hub
From the Bitkey app Home screen, tap the shield icon in the tab bar
.
You’ll see one of two shield states:
-
Shield with orange dot – You have a critical alert, or one or more new recommended actions to review
-
Plain shield (no dot) – You don’t have any new alerts or recommendations to review — but you may still have unresolved recommendations inside the Security hub
What you'll see in the Security hub
The Security hub has a few key sections, each designed to help you monitor and manage your wallet’s protection:
- Critical alerts – Urgent issues that may put your wallet at risk (shown as Wallet at Risk)
- Status cards – Helpful status updates related to actions you’ve already taken, like pending hardware replacement or Recovery Contact invites
- Recommendations – Suggestions for how to take full advantage of Bitkey’s safety tools and improve your wallet’s security or recovery setup
- Tiles – A live snapshot of your wallet’s protection settings. Each tile represents a feature (like Cloud Backup or App Security) and includes a status dot that shows whether action is needed — or whether there’s more you can do to improve your wallet’s safety
Critical alerts: Wallet at Risk
If your wallet doesn’t have a Bitkey hardware device paired, or your App Key backup is unhealthy, Bitkey will show a
Wallet at Risk alert. When this happens:
- You’ll see a critical alert banner at the top of the Home screen
- You’ll see a Wallet at Risk alert at the top of the Security hub
- You’ll see a red dot on the affected tile
You can take action in three places:
- Tap the critical alert on the Home screen to go straight to the action
- Open the Security hub and tap the call to action below the Wallet at Risk banner
- Tap the tile with the red dot to go directly to the setting that needs your attention
While your wallet is at risk:
- Only the critical alert will be shown — all other suggestions will be temporarily hidden
- Recommendations and Status cards will not appear until the alert is resolved
Status cards
Status cards appear at the top of the Security hub and provide helpful status updates related to actions you’ve already taken — like a pending hardware replacement or a Recovery Contact invite.
Note: Status cards are only visible when there is no active critical alert. If your wallet is at risk, Status cards will be hidden until the alert is resolved.
Examples of what you might see:
- A countdown showing how much time is left to complete a hardware recovery
- A Recovery Contact invitation that is still pending or has expired
Recommendations
Recommendations appear when Bitkey detects a way you can improve your wallet’s security or recovery setup.
- Each recommendation is tied to a specific tile, and will also show an orange dot
- You can tap either the recommendation or the tile to take action
- Completing the recommended action will dismiss the recommendation and change the dot to green
- ⚠️ If you don’t act, the recommendation and orange dot will remain visible until resolved
Note: Recommendations are not shown while a critical alert is active. Once your wallet is back to a protected state, any recommendations will reappear.
Examples include:
- Add a Recovery Contact
- Update your hardware firmware
- Set up PIN or biometric login
- Add a backup fingerprint
- Add a Recovery Contact
- Enable more critical alert channels, such as:
- Push notifications
- Email notifications
- SMS notifications (where available)
Note: The specific recommendations you see will depend on your current settings. You may see some, all, or none of the examples listed above.
Tiles and status dots
Each tile in the Security hub represents a specific setting tied to your wallet’s security or recovery setup. Tiles use colored dots to indicate status:
Dot | Meaning |
🟢 Green | Everything is set up and working as expected |
🟠 Orange | A recommendation is available to improve your protection |
🔴 Red | A critical issue is putting your wallet at risk — immediate action required |
You can tap any tile to view or update the setting.
