When a third party holds a key in a traditional multisig wallet, that key comes with the ability to view the wallet’s full history and balances. Holding a key has always meant having visibility, because the same information that allows someone to sign a transaction also allows them to see every address in the wallet.
The private wallet update breaks that link. Using a new protocol called Chain Code Delegation, Bitkey can hold a key on your behalf, without having the ability to see your transactions or wallet balances, except in very limited circumstances. When Bitkey signs transactions that require our participation—like recovery or if you’ve set a transfer-without-hardware limit— our servers have a momentary view into your transaction and wallet balance but that information is not logged or stored. This makes everyday use of Bitkey more private while keeping recovery and hardware-free transfers simple and secure.

🔎 Note: If you recently set up your Bitkey wallet, upgraded your device, or completed a Delay + Notify recovery, your wallet already includes the private wallet update—no action is needed.
