Now that your new Bitkey hardware device has arrived, you’ll need to start the Delay + Notify recovery process to pair your wallet with your new device and replace your old one.
Start the recovery process
- Tap the
 shield icon to open the Security hub
- Tap Â
Bitkey Device, then select
Replace device

Review the recovery overview, then tap Continue
⚠️ Important: There is a 7-day security waiting period.
- Once you tap Continue, the recovery process begins and the 7-day delay starts
- You’ll receive notifications during this time
- If you didn’t initiate this replacement, or no longer need it, you can cancel from the Home screen by tapping Replacement in process > Cancel Recovery
Set up your new device
Follow the prompts to set up your new Bitkey device:
Wake your Bitkey device
Touch the fingerprint sensor to wake your Bitkey device.
If you’re using Bitkey without a screen, the LED will light up when your device is ready.
Scan your device
Hold your Bitkey device to your phone to get started.
💡Tip: Hold your Bitkey device close to your phone’s NFC area and keep it steady until it connects.

Enroll your fingerprint
Follow the prompts to scan your fingerprint. If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey, then hold it to your phone again to continue.
If you’re using Bitkey without a screen, follow the prompts in the app. Place your finger on the sensor until you see a blue light, then lift and repeat until enrollment is complete.
When finished, hold your Bitkey device to your phone again to save your fingerprint.
Confirm the replacement
After the 7-day waiting period:
- Tap Confirm replacement
- If prompted, approve the action using your unlocked Bitkey device:
- Hold your unlocked Bitkey device to your phone.
- If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey screen, then hold it to your phone again to complete verification.
- Once confirmed, new keys, a new cloud backup, and a new Emergency Access Kit will be created.
Complete recovery
Approve a bitcoin transaction to move your funds from your old Hardware Key to your new one:
If prompted, approve the action using your unlocked Bitkey device:
- Hold your unlocked Bitkey device to your phone.
- If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey screen, then hold it to your phone again to complete verification.
Your balance will update automatically, minus a small network fee.
🔎 Additional Notes:
- You can still send funds up to your daily transfer limit during the waiting period
- Your previous transaction history will not carry over into your new wallet
⚠️ Important: If you previously shared a Bitkey wallet address with a sender or exchange, update it after recovery using a newly generated address.
Funds sent to addresses created before completing recovery may still be accessible.
