Before you begin
If you are recovering from only a lost or replaced phone, see:

To recover, you must have at least one of the following:Â
- An enrolled and activated Recovery Contact
- Access to your cloud backup
- Your original phone or Bitkey hardware device
How recovery works
- Restore your App Key using a Recovery Contact
- Replace your Bitkey hardware device using Delay + Notify
Restore your App Key using a Recovery Contact
Get the Bitkey app ready
If you haven’t already, download the Bitkey app on your new phone:

Then:
- Open the app
- Tap More options > Restore your wallet
Bitkey will check for your cloud backup. Make sure you're signed in to the same cloud account (Google Drive or iCloud) you used with Bitkey.
🔎 Note for Android users:  If you're not signed in to a cloud account, you'll be prompted to do so.
Start recovery
- Tap I've lost my Bitkey device
- Review the recovery overview
- Tap Continue
Select your Recovery Contact
- Under Your Recovery Contacts, tap Select next to the contact who will help you
- A Recovery Code will appear on your screen
đź’ˇ Tip: Contact your Recovery Contact using a live method (phone or video) before proceeding.
Share the recovery code
Ask your Recovery Contact to open the Bitkey app and go to:
Settings > Recovery Contacts > [Your name] > Help with Recovery
Provide them with the Recovery Code shown on your screen.
Once they enter the code successfully:
- You’ll see Verified next to their name
- Tap Continue
Continue recovery
You’ll be asked:
Do you have your new Bitkey hardware device?
- Yes → Continue below with Replace your Bitkey hardware device

No → You’ll return to the Home screen and can view your wallet balance

- When your new device arrives, follow:
Replace your Bitkey hardware using Delay + Notify
If you selected Yes, you’ll be guided into the Delay + Notify recovery flow.

🔎 Note: If you later find your original Bitkey device:
- Go to the Home screen
- Tap Replace your Bitkey device
- Select I’ve found my old Bitkey device
