How can I consolidate my UTXOs?

UTXO consolidation allows you to combine unspent bitcoin (UTXOs) into a single output to reduce future transaction fees.

1. From the Bitkey app Home Screen, tap the settings icon.
2. Under Advanced, tap UTXO Consolidation.
3. You must have at least two UTXOs to continue.
   • Unconfirmed incoming transactions can’t be consolidated. If any are detected, you can proceed without them or try again later.
   • You can consolidate up to 200 UTXOs per transaction.
4. Review the transaction details:
   • Consolidation time: Set to ~60 minutes to minimize network fees
   • Number of UTXOs: How many will be consolidated

   • Consolidation cost: Based on current network fees

     Bitkey does not charge or collect fees for transfers.

5. Tap Consolidate UTXOs.

6. Approve the action using your unlocked Bitkey device:

   • Hold your unlocked Bitkey device to your phone. 
   • If prompted to confirm on your hardware, follow the instructions on your Bitkey screen, then hold it to your phone again to complete verification.

   🔎 Note: UTXO consolidation transaction may take longer to show the Success message.

7. Once confirmed, the transaction will appear on your Home screen labeled UTXO Consolidation, with the cost displayed.
   • If your transaction hasn’t confirmed due to network congestion, you may pay an additional fee to speed it up.

⚠️ Important: UTXO consolidation always requires approval using your Bitkey device, even if it’s below your daily transfer limit.
