Bitkey’s Inheritance feature allows the funds in a wallet to be accessed after the death of the wallet owner by their designated Inheritance beneficiary.
To become a beneficiary, you must:
-
Accept the invitation sent to you by the wallet owner
👉 See How do I become an Inheritance beneficiary?
If the wallet owner passes away, you’ll be responsible for:
- Initiating an inheritance claim through your Bitkey app
- Completing the claim after the six-month waiting period
- Transferring the funds from the benefactor’s wallet to your own
⚖️ Legal Note:
Being named as a beneficiary does not guarantee legal ownership of the funds in the wallet. Ownership may be governed by a will or other legal document, which could take precedence.
We recommend speaking with an estate attorney or licensed professional in your jurisdiction.
