Note: Fingerprint reset is only available on Bitkey without a screen.
⚠️ Important: Resetting your fingerprints will delete all saved fingerprint profiles.
If you're unable to unlock your wallet using fingerprint authentication or need to clear all saved fingerprints from your device, you can start a fingerprint reset. This process takes 7 days and will delete all saved fingerprint profiles.
You’ll need to enroll at least one fingerprint after the reset is complete in order to unlock your Bitkey. While only one fingerprint is required, we recommend enrolling more than one for backup.
Start the reset process
- From the Home screen, tap the
shield icon to open the Security hub
- Tap the
Fingerprints tile
- Tap I can’t unlock my Bitkey
- If you don’t see this option, fingerprint reset has not yet been enabled.
Enable fingerprint reset (if needed)
Before you can reset your fingerprints, you’ll need to enable fingerprint reset
Make sure:
- Your Bitkey hardware device is running firmware version 1.0.101 or later
👉 See How do I know if my hardware device has the latest firmware version? - Your Bitkey app is version 2025.23.3 or later
👉 See How do I know if I have the latest version of the Bitkey app?
Then:
- Return to the Security hub
- Tap the Enable fingerprint reset recommendation
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Approve the action using your unlocked Bitkey device
Once fingerprint reset is enabled, you’ll be returned to the Security Hub. You can now continue with the steps above
Begin the fingerprint reset
- Tap Start fingerprint reset
- Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the reset
- Wake your Bitkey device when prompted and hold it to your phone
You’ll see a Fingerprint reset in process screen with a countdown timer confirming the reset has started
If you started this process in error, tap Cancel reset
Wait for the 7-day security delay
During the 7-day security delay:
- You’ll receive notifications based on your Critical Alerts settings
- The fingerprint status card in the Security hub will show the remaining time
To cancel:
- Tap the fingerprint reset status card
- Tap Cancel reset
🔎 Note: If your fingerprint is still recognized during this period, you can continue with the reset or cancel it and keep using your device.
If you cancel and later decide to restart the process, a new 7-day security waiting period will begin.
Finish the reset after 7 days
- Open the Bitkey app
- Tap the
shield icon to open the Security hub
- Tap the
Fingerprints tile
- Tap Reset fingerprints
Re-enroll your fingerprint
- Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your fingerprint
- Place your finger on the sensor and lift it when prompted
- Repeat until the scan is complete (typically 15–20 scans)
- Tap Save fingerprint and hold your Bitkey device to your phone to confirm
- If prompted, follow the instructions on your Bitkey and hold it to your phone again
- If prompted, follow the instructions on your Bitkey and hold it to your phone again
💡 Tip: If you didn’t finish the fingerprint reset process, just go to the Security hub and tap the Fingerprints tile to pick up where you left off.
To check how many days are left in the reset period, return to the Security hub. You’ll see a status reset fingerprint card showing the time remaining.
