If you received a notification that your recovery was canceled — and you did not cancel it yourself — it’s possible that someone has access to either the Bitkey app on your mobile device or your Bitkey hardware device.
You can restart your recovery and protect your wallet. Follow the steps below based on what you were recovering.
If you were recovering from lost hardware:
-
Open the Bitkey app on your phone.
You'll see a notification that your recovery was canceled.
Tap Got it to dismiss the message. -
Restart your recovery using the same process.
👉 See How do I recover from losing / replacing my Bitkey hardware once I have my new one? - You’ll now be asked to verify control of your email or SMS by entering a confirmation code.
Once verified, no one else can cancel your recovery or start a new one without also controlling your communication channel.
If you were recovering from a lost mobile device:
-
Open the Bitkey app on your new phone.
You’ll see a notification that your recovery was canceled.
Tap Got it to dismiss the message. -
Restart your recovery using the same process.
👉 See How do I access my Bitkey wallet using my new phone? - You’ll be prompted to verify control of your email or SMS by entering a confirmation code.
This extra step ensures that even if someone has access to your old device, they won’t be able to start or cancel a recovery without also verifying your communication channel.
