Delay + Notify recovery allows you to start recovery using only one of your keys—either your App Key or your Hardware Key—when the other is lost or unavailable.
Because this process creates a new wallet with a new set of keys and moves your funds to that wallet, Bitkey includes a mandatory seven-day security delay before recovery can be completed.
Why the delay exists
The delay gives the rightful wallet owner time to recognize and respond if a recovery is started without their consent.
During the delay:
- You’ll receive critical alerts in the Bitkey app
- You’ll also receive alerts through any enabled notification methods, such as email or SMS
- You can review and cancel an unauthorized recovery attempt
If you recognize the recovery, no action is needed. Wait for the delay to finish.
If you do not recognize the recovery, you can cancel it immediately in the Bitkey app.
This delay is a core part of Bitkey’s security model. It allows recovery to remain flexible while helping protect your wallet from unauthorized access.
