If you see a notification for a recovery you did NOT authorize, then it’s possible that someone has access to either the Bitkey app on your mobile phone or your Bitkey hardware device.
To cancel a recovery that you didn't initiate, follow the steps below based on the notification you received:
Your new Bitkey hardware device will be ready to use in [X] day(s) :
- Take precautions to disable your phone from being used. These will vary depending on the manufacturer and the OS of your mobile phone.
- Download the Bitkey app onto a new phone
- Select Recover existing wallet
- Use your Bitkey hardware device to follow the steps in I lost my phone. What should I do?
- If you are not able to restore from your cloud backup, you’ll see a prompt saying We've detected an attempt to replace your Bitkey hardware device using the mobile phone currently active with your wallet. Select Cancel conflicting recovery to stop the recovery attempt that you didn’t initiate.

- From this point onwards, if someone has control of your missing mobile device, they won’t be able to use it to start another recovery without also being able to verify control of one of your paired communication channels (email or SMS).
Your Bitkey wallet will be ready on your new phone in [X] day(s) :
- Open the Bitkey app on your mobile device
- You’ll see a message that recovery of your wallet to another phone is in process; select Cancel conflicting recovery.
- You should receive a confirmation in your email/SMS that the recovery in progress has been canceled.
- You should receive a confirmation in your email/SMS that the recovery in progress has been canceled.
- From this point onwards, if someone has control of your missing hardware device, they won’t be able to use it to start another recovery without also being able to verify control of one of your paired communication channels (email or SMS).

- While waiting for your new Bitkey hardware device to arrive, you should continue to watch for and cancel any other unfamiliar recovery requests that you may see.
